LESS FOOD WASTE. FEWER FRIDGE MYSTERIES.
Food Rescue & Storage Guide
Give your groceries a plan before the back of the fridge becomes an archaeological site.
Check the history before planning the next meal
Choose the food, confirm how it was handled, and get a storage checkpoint. General ranges help organize food; they cannot certify that an individual item is safe.
The fridge dial is a setting, not a witness. Check the actual temperature and its history.
Label when food was purchased, cooked or frozen. A container marked “probably Tuesday” deserves better paperwork.
Freezing can preserve food that was safe when frozen. It does not turn back time or repair unsafe handling.
Uses U.S. household food-safety guidance. Follow earlier food-specific or producer instructions and local guidance. Interrupted cooling, thawing and power outages need a separate check.

Food storage FAQ
Can I trust the smell test?
No. Unsafe food can look and smell normal. Never taste it to check. Use the food's handling, temperature and relevant instructions; your nose cannot issue a safety certificate.
Does freezing reset the refrigerator clock?
No. Food must be safe before freezing. This tool checks pre-freezing refrigerated age separately; thawed or interrupted storage needs food-specific guidance.
Are freezer month ranges discard dates?
The listed freezer ranges concern quality under continuous storage at 0°F / −18°C or below. They do not validate unsafe food or a thawing event.
What about milk, produce and pantry food?
Variety, preparation and packaging change the advice. These categories get a food-specific lookup instead of one invented day count. “Vegetables” is a department, not a shelf-life policy.
Can I freeze eggs in their shells?
Do not freeze raw eggs in their shells; hard-cooked eggs are also not a recommended freezer item. Already-frozen eggs need the official egg-specific instructions, particularly if shells cracked.
Does an earlier instruction matter?
Yes. Follow any shorter applicable producer or food-specific storage limit. A best-quality date and a safety or handling instruction are different; read what the label actually says.
Do I need the suggested products?
No. Suitable supplies you own are fine. Containers, labels and thermometers help organize or measure; none can make unsafe food safe.
Will saved entries stay current?
Saving keeps these entries in this browser on this device. It does not update elapsed days, monitor temperature or sync devices. Recheck the food and update the age before making a new plan.
